Terms of Service

Last updated: October 26, 2026

The short version: Northreturn sends polite follow-ups on your past-due invoices, in your name, using messages you approve. You stay responsible for your invoices and your client relationships. Northreturn is not a collection agency and can't guarantee that any invoice will be paid.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you (the business using the Service, "you") and Northreturn ("Northreturn," "we," "us"). By starting a pilot, creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of a business, you confirm you have authority to bind that business.

2. The Service

Northreturn is software that connects to your invoicing tool (such as QuickBooks, Stripe, FreshBooks or Xero) with read access, identifies invoices that are past due, and sends follow-up reminders to your clients on your behalf by email and, if enabled, SMS. Reminders follow a schedule (for example Day 3, Day 7 and Day 14 after the due date), unpaid invoices are escalated to you (for example at Day 21), and follow-ups stop when a client replies or pays. We also provide exception alerts and a weekly report. We may improve or change features over time.

3. Free 30-day pilot

New customers may start with a free 30-day pilot. There is no charge during the pilot, including no fee on invoices recovered during the pilot. At the end of the pilot you can choose a paid plan or stop. If you stop, we remove our access to your invoicing tool. No paid plan starts without your agreement.

4. Plans and fees

  • Pay-for-results plan: $99/mo plus 10% of recovered past-due cash. The 10% is charged once per recovered invoice, only on invoices already past due when follow-ups start, and never on invoices paid on time.
  • Flat plan: $199/mo for up to about 50 active invoices.
  • Volume/SMS plan: $349/mo, for higher invoice volume or SMS follow-ups.

Monthly fees are billed in advance each month. Recovery fees on the Pay-for-results plan are billed after the recovered payment is received, based on the amount paid on that invoice. Fees are in U.S. dollars, exclude applicable taxes, and are non-refundable except where required by law. We will give you at least 30 days' notice before changing the fees for your plan.

5. Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for the accuracy of your invoices, amounts, due dates and client contact details in your invoicing tool.
  • You are responsible for making sure your contact with your clients is lawful, including having any consent required to send SMS messages, and for honoring opt-out requests.
  • You review and approve the message templates sent in your name, and you remain responsible for your client relationships, disputes and any decision to take further action.
  • You will keep your account secure and use the Service only for legitimate invoices owed to your business, not for harassment, spam or any unlawful purpose.

6. Not a collection agency

Northreturn is not a collection agency, law firm or debt collector, and does not provide legal or financial advice. We send courteous reminders on your behalf, in your name, about invoices you have issued. We do not take assignment of debts, negotiate settlements, report to credit bureaus or take legal action.

7. No guarantee of recovery

Whether a client pays is outside our control. We do not guarantee that any invoice will be paid, or paid by any date or in any amount.

8. Data and privacy

You own your data. You grant us permission to access and use it only to provide and improve the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy.

9. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party tools, including your invoicing tool and email and SMS delivery providers. Their availability and terms are outside our control, and we are not responsible for their acts or outages.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Northreturn will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Northreturn harmless from claims arising from your invoices, your instructions, the messages you approve, your contact with your clients or your breach of these Terms.

13. Termination

You may cancel at any time by emailing [email protected]. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing month. Recovery fees remain due for payments received before cancellation takes effect. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms or use the Service unlawfully. When the Service ends, follow-ups stop, we remove our access to your invoicing tool, and we handle your data as described in the Privacy Policy.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
